Who We Are

The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization with a committment to the objectives of Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism.

Founded in 1890 by a group of patriotic and pioneering women, DAR members volunteer millions of service hours in their communities each year. Members provide support to active duty military personnel, assist veterans during in- and out patient care, and award thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid to students annually. Additionally, DAR members donate more than one million dollars to schools for underserved children each year.

DAR is one of the most inclusive genealogical socities in the country. Membership exceeds 190,000 with 3,000 chapters throughout the United States and abroad. Regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity, women 18 years or older, who can prove lineal descent from an American Revolution patriot are eligble for membership.
