Revolutionary War Patriots include signers of the Declaration of Independence, members of local and state militias, members of the Continental Army or Navy, men and women who rendered other types of aid to the cause of independence, and those who took oaths of loyalty. Additionally, civil service with provisional or new state governments proves aid to the cause of American independence.

With few exceptions, service consideration begins with the Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775 and ends with the British withdrawal from New York on November 26, 1783.
