DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS) - The NSDAR provides this free resource as an aid to anyone who is researching their lineage especially for the DAR membership process. DAR Library - The DAR Library is a specialized collection of American genealogical and historic publications and manuscripts. The library also maintains powerful on-site databases. The DAR Library is open to the public at no charge. Family Search - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides FamilySearch at no charge to the public. They asisst researchers through their website, mobile apps, and at more than 5,000 local family history centers. Cyndis List - Cyndis List is a free comprehensive, categorized, and cross-referenced index of genealogical resources available on the Internet. This is a great starting point for your genealogy research. Ancestry.com - Ancestry.com offers DNA testing as well as being the largest genealogy site in the world. The site offers some resources for free. However, more in-depth research requires a subscription. Local libararies may offer this resource for free with a library card. Fold3 - Fold3 provides access to original military records, stories, photos, and documents of men and women who served in our countrys military. Fold3 is subscription based. You can bundle it with an Ancestry.com subscription. Local libararies may offer this resource for free with a library card. Newspapers.com - Newspapers.com is the largest online newspaper archive with more than 640 million pages of historical newspapers. Newspaper.com is subscription based, but can be bundled with Ancestry.com subscription. Local libararies may offer this resource for free with a library card. TexShare - TexShare is an alliance of Texas libraries which have joined together to share print and online materials. The TexShare Card is available at participating Texas libaries. The card allows the holder to borrow books and other materials from more than 500 Texas libraries. TexShare databases are also available to card holders. Participating libraries set their own lending policies for TexShare Card holders. Libraries, Archives, and Courthouses - Local and state libraries and archives provide free access to many online genealogical resources: on-site or remotely. Most libraries require patrons to have a libary card or TexShare Card to access resources. Courthouses and local government offices are additional resources - although they may not offer online access. |
