MEMBERSHIP

The Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Today the DAR is over 185,000 members strong in 3,000 chapters worldwide. Each member descends from someone who served the cause of American independence. We are women, who are dedicated to making a difference in our communities while forming life-long bonds.

The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization promoting its objectives through committee work. The committees are broad-ranging. American Heritage, American History, Conservation, DAR Service for Veterans, DAR Project Patriot, and Women's Issues are just a few of the committees. No matter what your interests might be, the DAR has a committee just for you.

Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution is open to any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from a patriot, who served the cause of American independence.

The National Society has verified the lineages of more than one million Daughters since its founding in 1890. For a complete description of DAR membership requirements, visit our National Society Website.
