Thirteen women organized the Benjamin
Lyon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on November 17, 1928.
A letter regarding the formation of the chapter can be found in
The Portal to Texas History. Miss Elizabeth Virginia Lyon,
for whose ancestor the chapter was named, was the Organizing Regent. A
long-time History/Social Science teacher at Denton High School, she is buried
at the IOOF Cemetery at Carroll Blvd. and Eagle Drive in Denton. The chapter
added a DAR insignia to Elizabeth’s gravestone in 2015.
