Benjamin Lyon Chapter NSDARDenton, Texas

Denton, Texas

The Benjamin Lyon Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), has grown and flourished since its organization in 1928. Education, history, and patriotism are ongoing themes in the chapter's work. The chapter sponsors two scholarships: one is awarded annually to a history major at the University of North Texas, and the other is awarded to a nursing major at Texas Woman's University.

The chapter is instrumental in administration of the Texas First Ladies' Gown Collection at Texas Woman's University. The collection was assembled by the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution (TXDAR) in 1940. The chapter serves as a liaison between TXDAR and Texas Woman's University.

The chapter has promoted the DAR Good Citizens program in area high schools since 1960. It also awards National Defense Good Citizenship medals. ROTC medals recognizing achievement are presented annually to high school and university students in Denton County.

The tradition of serving the ideals and purposes of the NSDAR, and strong participation in service to community, state, and nation, continue as hallmarks of the Benjamin Lyon Chapter.
