Membership
Any woman, eighteen years of age and older, is eligible for DAR membership, regardless of race or religion, who can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution reserves the right to determine the acceptability of all service and proof there of. The National Society accepts service, with some exceptions, for the period between April 19, 1775 (the Battle of Lexington) and November 26, 1783 (withdrawal of British Troops from New York), as follows: Signers of the Declaration of Independence, military service, civil service, patriotic service. In order to help research our Spanish patriots, the Spanish Task Force was formed in 1998 during the Love Administration. To date, members have traced their ancestry back to more than 400 Spanish patriots of the American Revolution. The objectives of the Spanish Task Force are: to open new avenues for DAR membership; to locate documentation relating to Spanish contributions to the American Revolution; to identify Spanish nationals who contributed to the Revolutionary cause; to assemble lists of Spanish patriots; to encourage donations of pertinent materials to the DAR Library; to compile a bibliography of source material relating to Spain and the American Revolution; and to locate records in Archives outside of the United States, especially in Spain, Mexico, and Cuba. Volunteers are available to help with your DAR application.
