About Us
The Weatherford Chapter, NSDAR, is one of the oldest in the Texas
Society. We were organized on February 19, 1903, by the Organizing Regent Alice
Knowles Egelhoff along with 13 other members.
Our chapter has been involved with community service from
the very start including war bond sales during World War I and World War II.
After WWI we sponsored a war orphan in France. During WWII many members served
in the Red Cross.

In 1915, our chapter framed flag codes to be placed in
Weatherford schools. Bookcases were purchased for the new public library of
Weatherford in 1919.
A vintage compote and egg cup were donated to the Texas Room
in the NSDAR headquarters in Washington D.C., in 1938. A replica of the
inaugural gown of Sarah Lanham was made and donated by our chapter to the First
Ladies of Texas museum at Texas Woman's University (TWU) in Denton. Sarah was a member of our chapter and
her husband was Governor Samuel W.T. Lanham of Weatherford.
In 1928, loans were granted to students attending Weatherford
College. Starting in 1971, our chapter turned these into scholarships for
students which we still give every year to deserving Parker County high school
seniors. DAR Good Citizen awards are given to seniors now as well; one from each of
the seven high schools.

Recently we were honored for supporting the Heroes on the
Water veteran group which takes veterans and their families on fishing trips
in Parker County. We also provide Christmas gifts for the Veterans at Santa Fe
Rehab in Weatherford. Our chapter sponsors the Wreaths Across America ceremony
at three local cemeteries in December. We are members of the Vietnam Veterans
50th Anniversary Commission and co-sponsored programs to honor those veterans
in our communities.
The Weatherford Chapter, NSDAR, has always worked heavily in
educational projects. In the past decade we have presented an interactive
program about the Constitution in many 5th grade classes across Parker County
along with distributing Constitution booklets and Preamble bookmarks to every
5th grader in the county. But in 2019, we decided to produce a video which could
be presented in all 5th grade classes across the county. It was written and
performed by our members and videoed by the daughter of one of our members.
Like our live presentation it was interactive and informative which was so
impressive that we won first place in our National Society's Best Constitution
Activity category!
Our chapter has many talented and creative women one with an
NSDAR American Heritage Art Contest award. Look for her picture along with her
winning artwork on the Activities tab.
