AMERICAN HERITAGE
CHAIR: Mary Sue Duty
The American Heritage Committee was established
to preserve our rich American heritage in the
fields of art. We write and plan programs and
promote participation in contests for arts and
sculpture; fiber arts; historic preservation;
music; crafts, literature and drama; cultural
events and traditions; and quilt oral history
projects.
AMERICAN HISTORY
CHAIR: Angela Granger
This committee promotes the study of U.S.
history all year through: the participation of
students in the DAR American History Essay
contest and the Christopher Columbus Essay
contest in schools.
AMERICAN INDIANS
CHAIR: Donna Jernigan
This committee provides opportunity for projects
by the chapter to support American Indian
schools and scholarship fund.
AMERICANISM
CHAIR: Mary Sue Duty
We are a community-oriented service with the
objective of promoting knowledge, loyalty, and
love of country in the hearts and minds of
American citizens, whether naturalized or
citizens by birth. We oversee the approval
process for the DAR Medal of Honor and the DAR
Americanism Medal.

Our chapter has goals that are in alignment with
the historical, educational, and patriotic
objectives of the National Society. We keep
summary of those accomplishments.

CHILDREN OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION CHAIR:

We provide leadership and guidance to C.A.R.
members through volunteering as senior leaders
at all levels of the C.A.R. organization. We
guide them to learn about our nation's history,
government, and celebrating patriotism will
ensure the future of our own organization.
COMMEMORATIVE EVENTS
CHAIR: Natishua Mote Brandt
This committee coordinates and participates in
commemorative events for national, state, and
chapter levels. We attend local city council
meetings and meet mayors and councilmen while
representing the chapter.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS
CHAIR: Linda Cates
To recognize worthy individuals in their
communities for outstanding unpaid voluntary
achievements in cultural, educational,
humanitarian, patriotic, historical,
citizenship, or environmental conservation
endeavors.
CONSERVATION
CHAIR: Jennifer Mangum
We encourage members to practice good
conservation. We continue to recognize
outstanding conservationists with NSDAR
conservation awards.

DAR GENEALOGY PRESERVATION
CHAIR: Neil
Wiese
The committee's current project is the
Supporting Documentation Project. We help
categorize documents used by members to support
the lineage submitted on their DAR applications.

DAR GOOD CITIZENS
CHAIR: Linda Pitzer
This chair works with high school
administrators, distributes contest forms, and may
forward essays for state and national awards.
DAR LIBRARY
CHAIR: Neil Wiese
Our committee cooperates with the state librarian
in securing genealogical and historical books and
periodicals for the DAR Library. We support local
library collections with DAR and genealogical
publications.
DAR MAGAZINE
CHAIR: Angela Granger
We promote the DAR magazine.
DAR MUSEUM
CHAIR: Kay Wenzel
This committee participates in the docent
programs by donating funds to support the
educational programs and conservation/restoration
of the collections.
DAR PROJECT PATRIOT
CHAIR: Naomi Mangum
We support America’s service personnel in current
conflicts abroad by sending comfort items. We
also support our wounded warriors at the Veterans
One Stop Center and the VA hospital in Waco. We
are involved with collecting items for active
military, and sending grocery coupons to families
stationed at Fort Hood.
DAR SCHOLARSHIP
CHAIR: Jennifer Mangum
This committee distributes materials to high
schools and chooses the winning contestant,
forwarding information to state levels.
DAR SCHOOL
CHAIR: Carol Vaughan
We promote contributions and support of area
schools.
DAR SERVICE FOR VETERANS
CO-CHAIRS: Naomi Mangum & Patricia Peeples Lee
We are involved in community-oriented projects for
VA hospital centers as well as for homeless
veterans and all other veterans.
THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
CHAIR: Ann Bessire
We promote learning about the history and proper
use of the flag. Our principal objectives are to
keep the flag flying, to protect it continuously
under all conditions, and to educate citizens
regarding its correct usage.
GENEALOGICAL RECORDS
CHAIR: Peggy Duty
The purpose of this committee is to collect and
index unpublished records of a genealogical nature
and prepare them in proper form for placement in
the DAR Library.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION
CHAIR: Neil Wiese
We participate in historic preservation to
preserve the past, recognize individuals or groups
who voluntarily participate in historic
preservation, and to enhance the present.
HOSPITALITY
CHAIR:
We are responsible for providing hostesses and
refreshments at chapter meetings.
INSIGNIA
CHAIR: Millie Walker
This committee is concerned with the proper use
and placement of pins and bars on the official DAR
ribbon.
LINEAGE RESEARCH
CHAIR: Peggy Duty
This committee assists prospective and current
members with the documentation needed to complete
an official DAR application.

LITERACY PROMOTION
CHAIR: Linda Pitzer
We encourage DAR members to promote literacy in
adults and children. We highlight the DAR’s
commitment to literacy promotion by publicizing the
widespread problem of illiteracy.
MEMBERSHIP
CHAIR: Carolyn Haynes
This committee provides ideas for membership
development. We assist prospective members to obtain
the required documentation for membership.

We promote active participation by Junior members
(age 18 to 36).
MOVING FORWARD IN SERVICE TO AMERICA!

We encourage community service on all levels
as a means of honoring our heritage. We give
back to our communities in thanks for the nation

NATIONAL DEFENSE and ROTC

We promote “enlightened public opinion” at the
chapter level and in the community. We coordinate
the annual ROTC medals and presentations with local
schools.

SPECIAL PROJECTS GRANTS

We find and support community projects for national
support. We give financial support to projects in
our local community that exemplify the mission of
the National Society DAR to promote historic
preservation, education, and patriotism.
TOURS AND TRAVEL
CHAIR: Peggy Duty
This committee was formed to promote the recognition
of those who supported the struggle for American
independence. Past NSDAR tour programs have
focused on the recognition of people and governments
who helped make possible the reality of this great
nation.
UNITS OVERSEAS
CHAIR: Martha Bunn
This committee reaches out to Daughters residing
overseas to join in honoring our heritage, focusing
on the future, and celebrating America as we strive
to enhance public awareness of our vital, relevant,
and timeless mission.
VOLUNTEER GENEALOGISTS
CHAIR: Naomi Mangum
The Genealogy Consultant qualifies members to assist
chapters with the preparation of applications and
supplementals. NSDAR trained Volunteer Field
Genealogists train others in the proper preparation
and documentation of new member and supplemental
application papers.
VOLUNTEER INFORMATION SPECIALIST

We promote public awareness of DAR and its
objectives through the creation and maintenance of
our chapter website.
WOMEN’S ISSUES
CHAIR: Diane Hampel
Our committee is devoted to highlighting women's
health, career, and family issues.
