Robert Fix gave a presentation on the 1781 battle an
siege of Yorktown during our October regular meeting.
Our chapter participated in the
Killeen Veterans Day Parade in collaboration with the
Heart of Texas SAR Chapter and Betty Martin DAR Chapter
in November. Larry Peik, Ron Walcik, Melissa Walcik,
and Eileen Walcik wore their Revolutionary War
clothing.
Annette Lucksinger spoke on "Our Magnificent
Constitution . . . and We Wouldn't Have Gotten It
Without Compromise!" on September 18, 2012.
Chapter members enjoyed a festive holiday luncheon on
December 8, 2012.
Colonel Catherine Stephens, Texas Army National Guard
spoke on the “Texas Military Forces: National and
State Guard” on January 15, 2013. Ensign Thomas
Huling is proud of LTC Stephens who also serves as
the chapter chaplain!
Marge Croninger, Welba Dorsey, Sylvia Marrs, and Janie
Lawler presented "Docent Program: Period rooms" on
April 16, 2013.
Eileen Walcik, Vice Regent awarded Robert Fix our
chapter’s first DAR Outstanding American History Teacher
on May 18, 2013. Robert has taught American History for
over twenty years in Killeen, Texas. He was part of the
reenactment of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and
currently is preparing to participate in the reenactment
of the War of 1812. In addition to teaching his
students, Mr. Fix has presented programs at several of
the Killeen ISD schools and other organizations as well
as being a requested presenter at the Texas Association
of Gifted and Talented conferences.
Chapter officers Melissa Walcik, Eileen Walcik, and Gail
Prestigiacomo participated with Ron Walcik, Heart of
Texas SAR officer in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the
Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on May 27, 2013.

C.A.R. Chapters of Central Texas.
Melissa Walcik exhibited her family album as part of her
presentation with her co-presenter, Eileen Walcik on
“Documenting Your Family History” on March 20,
2012.
Dr. Carol Holcomb, University of Mary Harden Baylor
presented “The Cottage Home Program at Baylor Female
College: The Education Reforms of Eli Moore
Townsend” on April 17, 2012.
Gail Prestigiacomo, Melissa Walcik, and Eileen Walcik
placed the Ensign Thomas Huling Chapter wreath
at the May 28, 2012 Killeen Memorial Day Ceremony at
the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery.
Our chapter participated in the Belton July 4th
parade in collaboration with the Betty Martin
Chapter and the Heart of Texas SAR.

Killeen.
Our First DAR Medal of Honor Ceremony
Robert L. Bearden, WWII Army sergeant, paratrooper, and winner
of Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals, was presented with
the DAR Medal of Honor on Sunday, July 24, 2011. Mayor
Timothy Hancock presented Mr. Bearden with a proclamation
declaring July 24, 2011 as Bob Bearden Day. This day of honor
was shared by many friends and dignitaries of the community.

Robert (Bob) Lawrence Bearden wearing his

On September 8, 2011, Sergeant Amy Peterson
received the Ft. Hood NCO of the Year Award. This is
just one of many awards Sergeant Peterson has
received during her Army career. Honorary Chapter Regent Jackie
La Monte congratulated Sergeant Peterson on her accomplishments.
On September 8, 2011, Specialist Jason
Villar
received the Ft. Hood Soldier of the Year
Award.
Jason adds this award to many more that he
has
