Lohmann's Ford Chapter NSDAR
Caroline Ryals, Organizing RegentWho We Are: The City of Lakeway is nestled along the shores of Lake Travis in western Travis County, Texas. Lohmann's Ford Chapter, which serves this community, celebrated twenty years of active service in December 2014. Organized with eighteen ladies, we have grown to over 100 members. Our chapter adopted its name from an early pioneer in the area, German immigrant John Henry Lohmann, who, in the late 1800’s, built and maintained a private road to a shallow river crossing or ford. The road later became known as Lohmann’s Ford, and today still serves as a major Lakeway artery.

What We Do: In fulfillment of our support of the NSDAR mission to promote historic conservation, education, and patriotism, our members are engaged in a wide variety of activities.
  • Undertake historical preservation projects, including placement of plaques in historical spots.
  • Co-Sponsor Veterans Day and Memorial Day observances.
  • Hold Flag Day and POW/MIA Day observances.
  • Participate in Fourth of July activities.
  • Assist with naturalization ceremonies.
  • Make contributions to Project Christmas Hope to assist families of wounded military members, and send gifts of toiletries to wounded warriors' families at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
  • Present a DAR Good Citizens certificate each year to a Lake Travis High School senior.
  • Recognize elementary school students for participation in patriotic events.
  • Sponsor essay contests at area elementary schools and distribute copies of the U.S. Constitution to fifth grade students.
  • Engage in literacy partners programs at local elementary schools.

Meetings:
The Lohmann's Ford Chapter, NSDAR, is a vibrant, growing chapter. We welcome new members, whether transferring from another DAR chapter or seeking first time membership. Several of our members are volunteer genealogists, eager to help you get started in tracking your family lineage, identifying your patriot ancestor, and completing your application. Our chapter holds regular meetings from September through May, usually on the second Tuesday of the month. May and November meetings are co-sponsored observances of Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Contact us to visit a regular meeting as our guest, or for guidance with membership.
