Dear
Ancestor, When I was young, I cared not a whit; Not even the
teeniest, tiniest, little bit. Of DAR and their patriots to remember;
I was clueless to the honor of being a member. Little did I know that
someday I would find; Myself looking for trails left behind. It is my
wish to acknowledge and convey; How grateful and humbled I am today.
My middle name is Livingston; I guess my parents agreed as one.
A cousin has this middle name as well; How could our common kin foretell?
Finally executing my application; With my signature and
affirmation? I was teary-eyed as I signed my full name; And know all
of you have felt the same. We are clearly fortunate HERE, you see;
Our freedom, our liberty ? our guaranty. To see others suffering in
the world around us; Gives our gratitude even more stimulus. Our
patriots thought with clear reason; And fought, knowing results could be
treason. Those brave souls with strength and resolve; Held to truths
no king could dissolve. Leaving families and comfort to pursue their
pledge; Their unconquerable ideals, courage and privilege. How can I
impress upon you my reverence; For my fate to recognize their
perseverance? DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION: I vow
upon my honor to forever cherish; Those principles for which our patriots
did perish. They believed enough to sacrifice fortunes and lives; I
will do my part to ensure their calling survives. Written by Janet

Rock Wall Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR
or DAR), was organized on February 3, 1978,
by Minnette Pelphrey Goodson, and named for an underground wall of rock. The
wall, which encompasses a large area below Rockwall County, was discovered by
early settlers digging wells in search of water. Although it has a man-made
appearance, it has been suggested that it may be a natural rock formation.

We meet on the first Saturday morning of each month during the
school year. The majority of our members live in Rockwall County: Royse City,
McClendon-Chisholm, Heath, Rockwall, and Rowlett.
We have a sustaining scholarship fund, which is awarded
annually to a Rockwall County high school student. We are an award-winning
chapter, having recently beem awarded the "Texas Chapter Choice Award," voted on by Texas
members 18 to 35 years of age.
We have many diverse interests. Members focus on
conservation, veteran's affairs, genealogy, local history preservation,
military support, women's issues, native American school support, local school
support, or other National DAR supported groups.
We are genuinely a very kind group of women who love
serving, helping, and spending time with one another. We love our new members
and we are growing by leaps and bounds! We invite prospective members to attend
meetings so you can get to know us. Please
for more information. |
