About Us....

On October 5, 2013, we officially became the Sister Grove Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in Van Alstyne, Texas, which is thirty miles south of the beautiful Red River, along Interstate 75.

Our Name...

Sister Grove Creek runs through the eastern part of Grayson County. The creek's confluence begins 3 1/2 miles east of Van Alstyne and eventually flows into Lake Lavon, further south. Prior to 1825, it was used as a form of transportation to and from the Van Alstyne area.

Archeologists have discovered rich historical connections with the Sister Grove Creek Indian site, which seems to be a large base camp, consisting of about 10 acres, occupied between A. D. 900-1600. Excavation inside the structure revealed a number of small hearths and a flexed burial with a large dart point as a grave offering.

The term "Sister Grove" has long been used to not only identify the historical creek, but the area east of Van Alstyne. It has been used to name streets, roads, and land.
