Welcome
The Preston Trail Chapter is located in
Pottsboro, Texas, an hour north of Dallas.
This area of Texas, near the Red River and
beautiful Lake Texoma, boasts a rich,
exciting history. Chapter members focus
community efforts in Pottsboro and
surrounding towns in Grayson County.
Our chapter, organized on December 10, 2011
by our first regent, Joy Vian Martin, was
named in honor of William Gilwater Preston,
a young commanding officer for the Republic
of Texas, who was responsible for building a
road from Preston to Austin, Texas. The road
ran through present day Pottsboro.
Originally surveyed in 1840, this road
became one of the greatest cattle drive
trails from Texas to Missouri and Kansas,
and was the principal immigrant route into
northern Texas.
We welcome prospective members and invite
you to join us at a regular meeting. We meet the first Thursday of every month from 6:00-7:00 p.m. September - May except December.
Contact us for specific meeting time and location
information.
