Organized: April 27, 1926 Organizing Regent: Mrs. Gus L. Ford Nancy Stephenson was born in the Parish of Oxnam, Scotland. While very young, she moved with her parents to Antrim, Ireland. She married William Anderson in 1772, and the young couple left Ireland immediately to settle on a grant of land in Chester District, South Carolina. Mr. Anderson became a prosperous farmer in South Carolina. Serving with the American forces in the revolution, he was killed in battle in 1780, leaving his wife and three children, Mary, Robert, and William. Nancy Anderson reared her children as devout Presbyterians. Her daughter, Mary, married a minister, Joshua Smith. Her son, William, served as a captain in the War of 1812. Nancy Anderson died in June 1827, and was buried beside her husband and son, William, in the family cemetery near Rossville, Chester District, South Carolina. Joshua and Mary Smith were the parents of four sons who became ministers. Their son, James A. Smith, came to Dallas County in 1845, and helped organize the First Methodist Church there. He was the great grandfather of organizing regent Mrs. Gus L. Ford. Mrs. Ford was an honorary life member of the Nancy Anderson Chapter until her death on October 9, 1967.

The Nancy Anderson Chapter meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month, September through May, at 11:30 a.m., unless otherwise specified. In September there is a DAR/SAR dinner meeting, and in February a Good Citizens Tea is held. Each regular meeting includes a devotional, DAR Ritual and related material, President General’s Message, and National Defense Report.
