MEMBERSHIP

Would you like to join with other women that have similar interests in history, service and patriotism? Are you interested in honoring your grandmother's or mother's heritage in DAR? Would you like to meet new people? Would you like to provide service to America? Maybe you would like to honor and preserve the legacy of your patriot ancestors for future generations. As a member of DAR, through participation in the Society’s various programs and activities, you can continue this legacy by actively supporting historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavors. Attendance our our August through May monthly meetings is not required to participate in the service of our chapter. Click here to see if you are eligible.

Membership

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. Many times prospective members need help with their research. The Mary Tyler Chapter registrar, lineage research chairman, membership chairman, and other members have consistently helped many women become members of DAR. Contact us about joining the DAR!

What is a Junior?

A Junior is a DAR member age 18 through 35 years of age (until her 36th birthday). She may page at the TXDAR State Conference and National Continental Congress until her 41st birthday. She holds full DAR membership, and when qualified, may serve as an officer and chairman at the national, state, and chapter levels.

An informed Junior Membership is essential for participation at all levels. Junior Members are encouraged to learn and to lead in support of DAR objectives. Junior Members attend meetings, volunteer to serve on committees, subscribe to the DAR Magazine, and study the DAR Handbook to learn more about DAR.

Genealogical Records

As a result of the work of DAR members, the DAR library has assembled a tremendous amount of material not available anywhere else in the world. Members of our chapter have contributed family record pages from their Bibles to be bound and placed in the DAR Library Genealogical Records Collection. Our members have also written and donated books on family genealogy to the DAR Library in Washington D.C.  Our Registrar and members have access to a large online database containing many DAR applications from the last 127 years. This lineage information may help in your application process.
