Martin Preuitt, Jr. Chapter was organized April 16, 1977. Mrs. Henry F. Clark, Jr. was Organizing Regent. Mrs. Jimmy Don Hale, a member of the Anne Pettus Shelburne Chapter, Rotan, Texas, officiated at the meeting and installed the chapter officers.

Martin Preuitt, Jr., for whom the chapter is named, was born July 15, 1752 in North Carolina. He served in the Revolutionary War under General George Washington until the Colonies gained their independence. Martin Preuitt, Jr. and his brother, Isaac Preuitt,  took part in the famous battle of Kings Mountain fought in October 7, 1780. This is considered one of the most important engagements in the south during the war.
