Activities

Dress Rehearsal

In 2015 The John Hogg Sr Chapter presented a play and luncheon to fund our activities. It was lots of fun and a great success. It was produced, directed and acted by our members. Each of the US Armed Forces song was sung and the members of each branch were asked to stand.

Throughout the year we honor our veterans. At Christmas and Valentine's Day we take gifts and cards to the veterans in four nursing homes in our area. We also participate in memorial day services in communities and put flags on the grave of each veteran in four cemeteries. As we are doing this one of our members records the name and rank of the veterans of each grave and reports them to Find A Grave so families looking for these men and women may be able to find a lost member.

Scholarship

Each year we award a $1,000.00 scholarship to a deserving local high school senior. It is rotated through the three high schools in our area. Many of our members participate in our local schools aside from our DAR activities.

While we are raising funds for our projects we recruit new members, pass out constitutions and other DAR information. We participate in the Highway 80 garage sales, October Fest, Christmas in the Pines and other area festivals to fund these and other activities. One of our members donates a quilt each year.

VN Memorial

A Viet Nam Medal was presented to one of our member's husbands, Tommy Baxter, by Louis Gomert. Representative Goert was instrumental in getting the medal.

50 Year Member

Honoring our 50 year member on her birthday

This year our chapter conducted a lineage workshop led by our district lineage chair. We collected books to donate to our local schools and placed books in Christmas packages for our local Helping Hand ministry.
We attended District VI workshops and regents council, collected food, clothing and Visa cards for Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston , donated to our local veteran's memorials in Hawkins and Quitman and sent boxtops to the Tammassee Indian School.

In our meetings we learned about recycling and conservation, were familiarized with the Sons of the Revolution, learned about the Constitutional Convention of 1776 and the Constitution. Each year is different and a great learning experience with good friends.
