Membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is open to all women eighteen years of age and older who can provide lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. Read more details on our Texas Society, NSDAR, membership page.
We are a chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) located in the Dallas, Texas, area. Our members come from all over the Dallas area and we welcome you to learn more about us.
General Levi Casey Chapter, NSDAR, was organized February 7, 1952, with Katie Tucker Rice Ripley as organizing regent. The first meeting was held in the home of Ellen Boone Shelton Colwell, Dallas, Texas, who was a descendant of General Levi Casey.
General Levi Casey (1749-1807), South Carolina, was an active participant in the American Revolutionary War who rose from lieutenant to brigadier general of the militia. After the war, he served as a state senator and was elected to the 8th, 9th, and 10th U.S. House of Representatives. He died in 1807 and was buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
In 2013, chapter members conducted a ceremonial dedication at the grave site of General Levi Casey in Washington, D.C. during which an official DAR plaque was placed in recognition of his service.
Thank you for your interest in our chapter. We are a diverse group of women with talents, ages, backgrounds, and careers. We commit valuable time to participate in service activities, striving to make a difference in our community.
We would like to meet you. Please come to a meeting and learn more about us and what we do. You will find help with your application, and, hopefully, friendship. Whatever your passion, you can find a place in the DAR.
In DAR Friendship & Service,
Juliann Tigert
Regent, General Levi Casey Chapter, NSDAR
