Members of Fort Graham Chapter were delighted to
learn about various Christmas traditions in vogue during colonial
times. Sharon Allen and Jane Doclar, members of the Captain Molly
Corbin Chapter in Grapevine were the guest speakers at our November
meeting. Each year, the period rooms in NSDAR's Headquarters in
Washington, D.C. are decorated for Christmas in the style common to
that area of the country and time period. Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Doclar
used photographs of these rooms to explain the traditions and
customs that served as the basis for modern Christmas celebrations.
Since the chapter's formation, members of the Fort Graham Chapter
have participated the National Society Daughters of the American
Revolution American Heritage Contest.
In 2009, current Regent Madeleine Lively was honored to receive
second in the nation for her entry of a crocheted christening gown
she created for her granddaughter.
In 2010, Toni Wengler submitted a patriotic photo of the husband and
grandson of a chapter member taken at the chapter's Constitution
Week Assembly at Whitney High School.
In 2011, Madeleine Lively submitted a multimedia collage, Toni Wengler submitted a patriotic oil painting titled "Danny", and Susan Johnston won
first place in state and second place in regional with her historic
costume entry.
Gwyn Holden serves as chair of the American Heritage Committee for
the Fort Graham Chapter.
