OUR MISSION | PATRIOTISM | EDUCATION | HISTORIC PRESERVATION EDUCATION PHOTO GALLERYDAR LEADERSHIP TRAINING COMMITTEE DAR members visit museums and historical sites to expand their knowledge and understanding of American history and historical events. AMERICAN HISTORY COMMITTEE DAR members serve as judges and volunteers at student history fairs. DAR SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE The chapter presents an academic scholarship to a local graduating high school student annually and promotes NSDAR Scholarships. UNITS OVERSEAS COMMITTEE DAR members lend their support and sometimes visit DAR chapters located in overseas countries and territories. DAR LEADERSHIP TRAINING COMMITTEE DAR members attend meetings, workshops programs and classes to expand their knowledge and understanding of American history, DAR GOOD CITIZENS COMMITTEE The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship essay contest for high school seniors rewards the qualities of good citizenship: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. JUNIOR AMERICAN CITIZENS COMMITTEE Children are taught the principles of our democratic government, and they develop an appreciation for America and its history at the chapter's annual Constitution Camp for children. AMERICAN HISTORY COMMITTEE Chapter members regularly volunteer at schools and libraries to promote history, literacy, patriotism and citizenship. COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS COMMITTEE Community Service Awards honor individuals for outstanding community service. DAR SCHOOL COMMITTEE A weaving loom delivered by a chapter member to Crossnore School & Children's Home in rural North Carolina is used to help keep alive the historic art of hand-weaving while supporting the school and its students. WOMEN'S ISSUES COMMITTEE A heightened awareness of the issues facing today’s women are highlighted highlighted in reports at chapter meetings and in chapter activities. AMERICAN HISTORY COMMITTEE Outstanding Teacher of American History awards are presented to local history teachers. CONSERVATION COMMITTEE The DAR Conservation Medal recognizes volunteers for their conservation efforts. LITERACY PROMOTION COMMITTEE The chapter's commitment to literacy is affirmed with book donations to local schools and libraries, the DAR Library, military base libraries and elsewhere.
