Benjamin Lyon Chapter NSDARDenton, Texas

Denton, Texas

The Benjamin Lyon Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), has grown and flourished since its organization in 1928. Education, history and patriotism have been continuing themes in the Chapter's work. Two scholarships are awarded annually: one at the University of North Texas to history majors, and one at Texas Woman's University to nursing majors.

In 1940, the authentic collection of the Gowns of the First Ladies of Texas was assembled by the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution (TXDAR) and now belongs to Texas Woman's University where the gowns are on display. Benjamin Lyon Chapter has supplied docents and other support for this collection.

ROTC Medals for achievement have been presented annually to high school and university students in Denton County. Awards are presented for distinguished community service.

Chapter archives, in addition to genealogical and historical records, are stored in the Special Collections Department of the library at TWU.

The tradition of serving the ideals and purposes of the NSDAR, and strong participation in service to community, state, and nation, continue as hallmarks of the Benjamin Lyon Chapter.
