Topic: "Heraldry, History, and Revolutionary War Connections"
The History of Heraldry (The use of Coat of Arms or Family Crests) dates back to the late 12th century with roots that go back much further. It remains a living art in the 21st century. This presentation will define what heraldry is; look at its roots and present some of the ways it has been, and continues to be, used with several examples from well-known Americans. We will conclude with the use of arms by signers of the Declaration of Independence and by other well-known figures of the Revolutionary War.

Volunteer Activity to refurbish the Balcones Escarpment Texas Historical Marker on Loop 360. Supplies will be provided. Additionally, a special program will be held to honor founding members of the Balcones Chapter.

November 10 & 13 (Tuesday & Friday) 1:00 pm
Veteran's Day Flag Placement

Volunteer on November 10th with Wreaths Across America to place flags on the graves of our veterans with DAR sister chapters in Austin and SAR to honor our veterans. Then assist on November 13th with flag pickup.

Topic: "Remember the Ladies of the American Revolutionary Era" "Remember the Ladies..." Abigail Adams wrote to her husband, John on March 31, 1776, in the build-up toward the declaration of American independence from Great Britain. During the ensuing eight-year conflict and in the creation of the current American government, women played a critical role, which this talk will examine, from Martha, to Abigail, to Mercy Otis Warren, and to the countless women whose names have been unintentionally lost to the pages of history.

The Santa Fe Trail was an historic trail that began in the United States-Independence, Missouri, and ended in a foreign country-Santa Fe, Mexico. It was 780 miles in length and was an international trade road. Join us as we learn about the significance of the trail and how it opened the door to American expansion in the Southwest.
