Daughters of the American Revolution

Membership

Tejas Chapter NSDAR was organized in 1952 as one of the first chapters for working women in West Houston. Meeting on the second Saturday of the month, Tejas is a vibrant chapter of women of all ages who support the goals of the National Society. Our members answer this call by supporting our veterans, honoring outstanding citizens who have given of themselves to the community, promoting historic preservation, and supporting education through scholarships and essay contests.

Our members serve the state and national organization in a variety of ways. In addition to President General Lynn Forney Young, members Mary Johnson, Shannon Cranson, and Lindsey Witte serve as national vice chairs. Mary Johnson, Shannon Cranson, Sally Patterson, Jan Broadway, Lindsey Witte, Christine Faulkner, Lynnette Gulley, Janet Wallner, Ashley Naumann and Janet Hicks serve as state chairs or vice chairs.

Our very active Junior Members (all under the age of 36) serve as chapter officers, committee chairs and on the national and state level. Juniors are full members of the NSDAR and may hold any position in the organization for which they are eligible. Juniors also enjoy additional opportunities for service which enhance the organization.

Any woman who is at least eighteen years of age and can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to become a member of NSDAR. Ancestors of chapter members came from all walks of life and areas, and this is reflected in our membership. With over 200 members from unique backgrounds, we unite in service to God, Home, and Country.
