Lucretia Council Cochran Chapter has been serving the Arlington community for more than 50 years. The Daughters recognize excellence in education by sponsoring several awards in the school district. Annually, the chapter sponsors the American History and Christopher Columbus Essay Contests, The Outstanding Teacher in American History, ROTC Awards, DAR Good Citizens and recognizes students in fifth and eighth grades. Similarly, the chapter sponsors a scholarship for graduating seniors from Arlington Independent School District to the University of Texas at Arlington.
For our many outstanding efforts the chapter has been recognized on Texas Society DAR (TSDAR) Gold and Silver Honor Rolls. Several honored Daughters serve TSDAR on state committees. In memory of deceased Daughters, the chapter places genealogical books in the Arlington Public Library and plays a vital role in creating its outstanding genealogical collection. Furthering DAR objectives, Daughters personally present school awards, distribute the DAR Manuel for Citizenship, attend naturalization ceremonies, and regularly participate in Arlington’s 4th of July Parade.
The Arlington Citizen-Journal honored the chapter as “Club of the Year 1986”. More recently, in 2003, the Arlington Historical Society honored the chapter for Arlington Treasured Recipes, which was published as a United States of America Bicentennial and Arlington, Texas, Centennial co-celebration. The proceeds from this collection of historical facts and favorite recipes provide awards and scholarships for the school children of Arlington.
Also, the chapter is a proud sponsor of the Three Forks of the Trinity Society, Children of the American Revolution The society is the 2007 Texas Most Outstanding Society with 25 to 39 members.
