Chapter History
The
George W. Kendall Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American
Revolution was approved by the National Board of Management February 5,
2000. There were fifteen Organizing
Members. Charter Membership remained
open to all who were officially Active Members of the Chapter on the one-year
anniversary in February 2001. There are
currently 76 Active Members, 3 Associate Members, and 18 Prospective Members, 4 of which are pending and 2 verified.
“It
shall be the object of this Chapter: To
perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who brought American
Independence to the Texas Hill Country area, in and around Kendall County, and
to protect historical spots, encourage historical research; and to participate
in patriotic celebrations of American history in the local community.”
In the spirit of this Object, taking part in local community events, as well as DAR national programs, will be given prime attention.
George W. Kendall, for whom the county is named, was chosen as the chapter’s namesake, for his outstanding leadership in local, state and national history. The biography of George W. Kendall gives credit for many of the reasons for honoring him.
