I have been a member of the DAR since 2007 and am so
proud to be regent. This is the highest honor for chapter members, and I am humbled to be leading such a dedicated group
of patriotic women. The Elizabeth Denton English Chapter is a diverse group of women ranging in ages from 19 to 93. All Daughters share a common bond in that an ancestor(s)
served as a patriot in the American Revolutionary War. We are dedicated to patriotism, education, and historic preservation. Our chapter has historically followed the mission
statement of National. We are well known for our community involvement and working to accomplish the goals set forth for us.
Our members participate in many patriotic activities in the Wood County area, supporting the VFW and American Legion posts, offering scholarships to worthy
Mineola students, participating in the DAR Good Citizen program, supporting Girl and Boy Scouts, Children’s Advocacy center, providing items for veterans at Bonham
Hospital, recording the military history of veterans through the Library of Congress program, supporting DAR schools, American Indian projects, and many other DAR supported programs.
From 2007 to 2011, the chapter has grown from 28 members to 67 – one of the fastest growing chapters in Texas. We are proud of the enthusiasm of our members and
their dedication to promoting the mission statement of DAR. We are not shy in promoting the DAR and our fast growth shows the results. Using their talents and resources for various
projects, our members participate in numerous projects which help make our various communities vibrant and active.
Why not explore your heritage and find that ancestor who served during the American Revolution? The DAR
accepts proven lineage to those who served in many different capacities, including patriotic and civil service, NOT JUST
patriots on the battlefields! Was your ancestor a town clerk, selectman, constable or surveyor of highways? Did he sign
an Oath of Allegiance? Maybe he was a minister who gave a sermon supporting the American cause. Why not start the search
today and let our chapter registrar help you find that connection. Just use the contact link to reach her – we are here to
help you join the thousands of women with a common bond. Join the DAR and become involved in historic, educational and
patriotic activities in your community. Thank you for visiting our website – now visit our chapter meetings. You will be warmly welcomed.
In DAR Friendship,
Karen Pilgrim, Regent
