ACTIVITIES

  • The Daniel Coleman Chapter conducts research and records and preserves historical data to enhance the knowledge of our past for the enlightenment of future generations. Chapter members have presented books and manuscripts to the NSDAR Library, Texas State Archives, and other historical libraries.
  • Support for community education continues to be one of our Chapter's main interests. We provide college scholarships to area high school students through the DAR Good Citizen competition. Also, we sponsor an American History Essay Contest for students in the upper elementary grades where monetary and other prizes are awarded. The Chapter donates American and Texas flags to Williamson County schools where they also present educational programs about the flags and participate in flag celebration activities. The chapter just formed a new committee to work with  the Literacy Program of Williamson County which teaches children and adults to read.  The charter for this committee is still being formed. The DAR/NSDAR Museum Correspondent Docents present historical programs to area schools.
  • The Chapter was an organizing member of the Capital Area Regent's Council.  This Council, Daniel Coleman Chapter, and other Austin area Chapters, organized and continue to guide the Nathaniel Maxwell Society, Children of the American Revolution.
  • The Chapter has been active in placing historical markers at various historical sites in Williamson County.
  • Daniel Coleman Chapter provides service to veterans in VA Hospitals in Texas. Also, we provide support to DAR schools.
  • Many members have been appointed to state and  national chairmanships. Members continue to attend State Conferences and The Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.
