For 125 years, Daughters have served America, from
establishing the Army Nurse Corps on the national level to marking thousands of
places of historic significance on the local level, DAR members have long
accepted the obligations of citizenship. Through countless unselfish acts to
promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism, our members have
evidenced in word and deed the true responsibilities of what it means to be an
American. Throughout this anniversary year our members will participate in
service projects in honor of our 125th anniversary.
To celebrate the 125th anniversary of NSDAR, Captain
Nathaniel Mills Chapter held a ceramic bowl painting event for the community to
benefit the Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB). This project called Paint One - Feed
Many will support the TAFB by providing hand-painted bowls to be used at their
annual fundraiser Empty Bowls - An Artful Taste to End Hunger. TAFB is the
distribution hub of a 13-county network of hunger-relief charities and social
services centers. As a central clearing house for donated food and groceries,
the food bank receives fresh, frozen, and nonperishable food donated by the
food industry and the community. It distributes this product (about 30 million
pounds annually) to 300 partner agencies that serve abuse victims, children,
elderly, chronically ill, unemployed, the working poor, homeless, and other
Texans in need. For every $1, the TAFB can provide 5 meals.
We chose our bowls,
Selected our paint colors,
⦠and then had fun painting.
Chapter members were joined by residents at a local
senior living center, members of a Girl Scout troop, DAR members from other
chapters, friends, family and people from the community at large. It was great
fun to see people of all ages coming together to celebrate NSDAR and support
this worthy cause.
Each bowl sold at the fundraiser will provide 250
mealsâ¦
Members
and guests painted enough bowls to provide over 16,000 meals!
