Chapter History
The Capt. David Philips Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was nationally chartered on October 13, 1972. The first meeting was held in the commuity room of the Sulphur Springs State Bank on that day. Mrs. Kenneth Brice was the organizing regent.Capt. David Philips, for whom the chapter was named, was the eldest of four sons of Joseph and Mary Philips of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All of the four sons served in the conflict, one of whom was captured and held for some time on British Frigate.
After the War, Capt. Philips entered the ministry and in his career founded a Baptist church in Library, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburg, where a museum and a carillon have been erected in his memory.
